Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting

Vote to approve the minutes from the December board meeting

Yes: 5

No: 0

Result: Passed

Financials

  • Our money market account made $14 in interest in one month

  • Our treasurer is having another kid!!! Meg has had a lot on her plate and mentioned that if someone else would be interested in taking over the role of Treasurer she would be fine with that. John said he would be willing to help her out. The announcement was also added to the member meeting agenda later in the month.

  • Matt requested more access to view financial info

Membership Update: 84

  • Several people asked to cancel their membership but then were automatically charged anyway. Brad said he would handle refunding them.

  • 10 people showed up for the previous night's open house

New Laser Progress Report

  • Brad upgraded the exhaust system and installed the necessary piping. He is also attempting to quiet the exhaust fan by encasing it in a box which is covered inside and out with a thin layer of butyl rubber. He has also spent time on the phone with Boss Laser Tech Support and discovered that one of the laser's power supplies was bad. Boss sent us a replacement. They accidentally sent us the wrong one. Then they sent the appropriate unit, and Jake installed it. He also fixed the fittings on the air supply and installed a water separator. Bottom line: It's not fully functional yet, but it's getting there.

  • Matt is also making a lock out/tag out system for the laser. The laser requires a key. Matt is making a lock-box with an RFID reader that will open for any member who has been trained.

  • John reminded everyone that at the end of the year we will have to write up a narrative for Prairie Meadows talking about how we used their grant.

Snow Day 2025

  • We held this but ironically, due to snow, only 12 attended.

Space Updates

  • Namesilo emailed us a special offer for renewing our domain name, unfortunately the deal ended before we could jump on it.

    • It was noted that we need to make sure namesilo has multiple contact emails for us, unlike the last time where only 1 email account received the warnings.

Clean Up Night Incentives Discussion

  • Clean Up Nights are not attended as well as we'd like them to be. Several ideas were floated to incentivize members to come:

    • Take $25 off the first month of new members who attend Space Clean Up Night.

    • Set up a gift card online and give the code to anybody who attends Clean Up Night. This would benefit any member who attends, not just new members.

    • Do a $10 discount for members who show up

    • Waive a Tool Fee for anyone who shows up

  • Waiving a Tool Fee seemed to have the broadest support at the end of the discussion.

  • Discussing this was added to the member meeting agenda.

  • It was also remembered that we were going to setup a white board with cleaning jobs on it so people could mark the cleaning they do outside of Clean Up Night.

Space Updates

  • In the above incentives discussion it was estimated that, counting the money we spend on maintenance, we probably need about 75 members to financially break even.

    • If we don't account for maintenance spending, we only need 57 members to break even.

  • Brad floated the idea of putting up TVs in some of the shops (like the Wood Shop) that constantly display the names of members who have paid their tool fee. It would be a way of reminding members that they need to pay and publicizing who hasn't.

  • The 3D Stewards discussed the new multifilament technology from Prusa.

Vote to spend $750 of general funds to buy a Prusa Core1 from Jake

Yes: 5

No: 0

Result: Passed

  • We still need to pay Darren for his SawStop.

  • Matt spent a bunch of time cleaning up the Area515dsm Inbox.

Meeting Adjourned

  • "I've met some of the most eclectic people I've ever known here." - Chris

  • Case in point: Jake has a very impressive collection of super nice pens and mechanical pencils.

  • Seriously, the Secretary was skeptical of these, but he tried one and it was super nice.
